PERU:
Location: Chincha Earthquake Project
The ICA emergency earthquake relief project in Chincha Alta just passed 1300
homes built in just 6 weeks, with ALL of the work being done by community
volunteers led by the 60 Promoters who were trained by the ICA-Peru staff. This
week 2 of the 30 sectors have completed construction of all of the homes for
their families and have organized full-acale community celebrations --
completely of their own initiative. None of our staff has ever seen such a
spontaneous and sustained response catalyzed by just 5 days of spirited
leadership training in ICA methods. We've got to figure out how to do a lot more of
these types of spirit-filled community projects -- but without the stimulus of an
earthquake!
