The last module of the ICAA 6 module training program rolled off the Assembly
line last week in Adelaide. This particular event has been on the drawing board
for 10 years, with input from many colleagues, and over the last 4 years, has
been through several trial runs that were deemed 'not yet' . Jeanette Stanfield
has guided the process recently and there have been a number of meetings of ICAA
and Facilitative Leadership Program FLP team members in various cities to
correct and deepen the process. The two-day 6th module is named
'Transformational Leadership'. It began as an attempt to further secularise
RS-1 Religious Studies 1, one of ICA's original courses, but had little
consensus until the chart 'Underlying Dynamics of the ToP methods' came into
being. The next step was to focus the process as basic to facilitate
leadership.
The seminar is in four parts. the first, named 'push pull' is about
recognising the totality of our situation as initial to transformation. the
second, named 'chaos order' is about accepting our real situation as opening up
choices. The third, 'responsible decisions' has to do with making decisions
that bring with them responsibility and commitment. The fourth session is 'at
the edge', emphasising transformation as led by those who live at the edge. There
were fourteen people artound the table for the event in Adelaide. Jeanette
Stanfield and Joan Firkins were the lead facilitators, and the participants have
been on the journey through the other 5 modules for over a year.
This event was
something of a celebration, no only because Module Six was launched, but because
we had a team of people now considering certification. The next presentation of
'Transformationsl Leadership' is imminent. It is being held in India, under the
leadership of Kevin Balm and Mark Butz.

ToP training continued in Canberra with the first of two three-day sessions covering Modules 1 to 3 of the Facilitative Leadership Program. Attended mostly by NGO participants, this foundational session offered the Discussion, Workshop and Action Planning methods, underlying dynamics, and design and staging.
The second session takes place in late October, with practice events and coaching in the intervening period. This two session format is now solidly developed and appears to offer participants greater confidence and preparedness in applying their learnings.

PERU:
Location: 100 Valleys
We received the expected US250,000 grant from Japan Platform for the emergency
aid program in the south of Peru which begins 15 Sept and runs through 31 Dec.
We are to build 1050 temporary houses and assist another 1200 families to
upgrade and relocate their temporary houses to their own lots. This means that
2,250 families will have cleared their lots of rubble and have a secure
temporary home in which to live while they begin to rebuild permanent housing on
the back of their lots, phasing out of their temporary houses in a year or so.
We are very excited about organizing the community in teams of five families,
which teams will cooperate in doing the construction of the houses, led by 60
resident coordinators who will receive ICA leadership training in the ICA
Training Center in Azpitia. Our hope is that a permanent local leadership will
emerge and that these neighborhoods will become a sign of hope for the entire
region as it rebuilds. More from the field in coming weeks.

Another busy week has just passed with activities around building a formidable

Upon the suggestion of ICAI a meeting of selected INGOs in

establishing such a network is to enhace collaboration among INGOs based in
Montreal which is becoming an emerging hub of INGOs in the country and also to
increase our power for joint negotiation with government authorities.
Throught
the generous support of ICA-Associates, Michael, Katie and Sarah F participated
