Weekending: Saturday 2007 07 07

AUSTRALIA:

Location: Sydney

On Thursday, 3 ICAA colleagues visited the Board of Studies of the Department of Education and Training, NSW.  With one of the heads, Elaine, Deborah and Robyn discussed the extended use of the Resource materials, 'Around the Kitchen Table', DVD and Resource book, developed by ICAA colleagues, Elaine Telford and Sally FitzPatrick.  This meeting, one of many with different bodies, opened up more possibilities of further 'round table discussions' with various DET sectors, working towards greater consistent 'embedding' of Indigenous understandings into the mainstream curriculum.

Australia is in the midst of a national crisis, as we belatedly attempt to address 'across the board issues' of Indigenous people's health and well-being, with a largely 'top-down' intervention.  A compilation of comments and responses will be posted shortly. Many ICAA members are engaged in supporting and participating in, the actions of grassroots bodies, promoting appropriate collaborative processes.

NEPAL:

This week we had quite a busy week.

Hemant and Binod completed 13-day long monitoring visit of Far Western Projects.

Tatwa completed developing a manual on leadership and management for health professionals.

Tatwa and Madan were invited by the Government of Nepal's Health Training Centre to  facilitate one day training on leadership and management for newly recruited medical doctors. There were 17 doctors and they found the programme very useful for their future career.

Yogmaya and Krishna developed the draft manual on 'forestry and indigenous people'. ICA will be conducting workshops and seminars at various locations on that theme.

ICA facilitators particularly Atma Ram Upadhaya also submitted the draft manual on life skills based education, which has been requested by Nepal Redcross Society.

ICA Nepal's staff also participated in coordination meeting of regional gathering proposed in Dhaka in December this year.
